Historic Hahndorf | Australia

Postcard
Located just 25 minutes from Adelaide, Hahndorf is Australia’s oldest surviving German settlement and celebrated 175 years in 2014. One of the icons on this map of South Australia refers to Hahndorf.

During the 1800's, religious persecution in Europe was so extreme that many Lutherans in Prussia emigrated. In those days they travelled by ship. In 1838 some of these migrants reached Port Adelaide in the "Zebra". Captain Hahn was so concerned for his passengers that he helped them find suitable land. They estabished a township in the Adelaide hills and named it Hahndorf, in gratitude for their captain.

Thank you Steve!
