Kiribati is an island nation in the central
tropical Pacific Ocean with a population of just over 100,000. One of the
islands is Christmas Island (or Kiritimati), not to be confused with the Australian
territory in the Indian Ocean.
Christmas Island is the largest coral atoll in the
world and home to over six million seabirds. It measures about 22 by 44
miles and it has a population of approximately 5,000. The earns
some revenue from coconut products and a growing tourism industry.
